Our company operates as a for-profit limited liability company dedicated to helping the community.

Our long term mission at Sunflower Tails Homestead is to rescue animals and provide them with a chance at life. We want to help local community animals in need whether its donations or monetary needs when we can. We believe that every small act of kindness counts, whether helping an animal the road or offering support to those who are struggling.

Our dream to one day own a ranch dedicated to rescues, and we are incredibly grateful for your donations, big or small, which truly make a difference in saving lives.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Welcome to our farm adventure! This began as a spontaneous trip to Tractor Supply, where we fell in love with adorable baby chicks, quickly blossomed into a delightful journey with 50 chickens and 8 ducks. Our feathered friends have become part of our family, living with us indoors for weeks before moving to their cozy outdoor setup. Now, they enjoy the freedom of free-ranging all day, bringing joy and life to our homestead! Our Rooster Fernando has been with us since day one protecting our flock. We learned quickly that although we were sold hens, those hens were actually Roosters. Our hens are named after cities and states and they all seem to have a unique personality.

Fernando, our main coop man! He’s the loudest alarm clock you never asked for and keeps such a close eye on you that might start feeling like a celebrity on a red carpet. Turning your back? That’s a hard pass! He does his day job well strutting around like he owns the place—because, let’s be honest, he probably thinks he does!

Meet the Roosters!

Meet Maria, who decided she wanted to be Mario! Our pretty hen turned rooster is our second keeper, and let me tell you, he's got quite the personality. He's as soft as a cloud but struts around like he owns the place, crowing like he's auditioning for a talent show. Mario knows he's number two in command of the coop, but he acts like he's the head honcho!

The Waddle Squad

We started with 4 adorable baby ducks, blissfully unaware of their gender identities. Spoiler: they all turned out to be males! Clearly, our research skills were on par with a duck in water. So, thinking we could handle more quackers, we added 2 more males to the flock. Lesson learned: males are territorial! Now, we’ve got a cozy setup where they can live in pairs, keeping the drama to a and the quacking to a maximum!

"Plant the seed of your dreams, nurture it with hard work, and watch it flourish into something extraordinary!"

Our Story

Plant the seeds and watch them bloom

Just as sunflowers grow tall from the smallest seeds, rescued animals blossom when given proper care, compassion, and time. The sunflower represents their journey—from neglect to nurture.

We spent too many years living the way the world told us to—chasing success, approval, and stability on someone else’s terms. But when we finally chose to live with purpose, everything changed.

We realized that nothing in this life matters more than giving life—to our family, to our gardens, and to the animals and souls still fighting for their chance to heal, grow, and live fully.

Sunflower Tails was born from that belief in creating a better world around us with animals.

Love Planted and Grown.

Bryce Flowers _edited.jpg

In Memory of Bryce and Karla, my mother

My mom loved animals. I grew up in a home that volunteered and always gave back to the community. By middle school, we had four dogs—technically mine, but they absolutely adored my mother! By the time I was ready to move out, all of the dogs had become hers. She wasn’t willing to give up her buddies… so my search began.

Have you ever had a dog with a connection like no other? The kind of love that feels like it could only be shared with a child? Have you ever felt lost, then found the moment you met your dog? Has your dog stood by your side during the best and hardest times of your life? Mine did—Brave Bryce.

Bryce came from a local Boxer rescue in Pennsylvania. We didn’t know much about his history, except that he was dropped off in terrible shape—matted, scared, and a mess. But his eyes were full of love. He needed me, and I needed him. He quickly became my best friend. We did everything together—walks, reading, ice cream trips, national parks, and countless adventures.

During the peak of COVID, my mom was hospitalized. She spent 33 days in the ICU fighting for her life. When she passed in January, life felt impossibly hard—but Bryce never left my side. My mom had a deep passion for giving to animals. She adored Bryce and called him her grandpup! He was part of every family holiday, received cards and gifts, and was truly one of us.

He seemed to understand my pain, almost as if he were human—always making sure I was okay. He stood beside me through every major life event: losing a parent, moving, traveling, the birth of our first child—even standing at the altar on my wedding day.

The night of our wedding dinner, we received devastating news—Bryce had cancer in his eye. I searched high and low for a specialist. We drove him from Georgia to Florida to Alabama for appointments and chemo. Bryce had to have an eye removed, and we hoped it might save him. We bought him a helmet to protect his head, a halo as his remaining eyesight faded—but nothing worked. The pain worsened. The cancer spread. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to both my mom and Bryce within such a short time. Two of my best friends. My family. Nothing could ever replace Bryce.

But I made a vow: I would save another soul, in memory of Bryce and my animal-loving mother. When Bryce crossed the rainbow bridge, I knew my mom was waiting there—ready to love and care for him once again.

They will be forever in my heart. And forever loved.

Road to Rescuing

Teddy's Story: Noble Noah

Noah Atlanta.jpg
Noah After.jpg

Teddy, also known as Noah, arrived at the Humane Society in a fragile state, weighing just 30 pounds. His fur was severely matted, and he had a strong odor. After being shaved down, what remained was a body of skin and bones. He was sad, scared, and seemed to know only a world of pain.

Noah was listed as a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle mix, but all we saw was a pup in desperate need of love. On the way to pick him up, I went back and forth on names and finally chose Noah, inspired by Noah’s Ark—a symbol of rescue and new beginnings.

Despite his rough start, Noah is now on a path to healing and discovering the love he truly deserves. With consistent care and compassion, his spirit has begun to blossom. Today, he is a happy, carefree, loving, and independent boy—ready to embrace a brighter future.

Yoshi's Story: Miraculous Marley

Marley First.jpg

Meet Yoshi, also known as Marley—a gentle Standard Poodle with a soul full of quiet strength. He arrived at the Humane Society in desperate need of care: matted, underweight, and with little experience of human affection. Deep down, he was simply longing for love.

On the ride home, Marley was so nervous he became sick—he couldn’t have known that a better life was waiting for him. He had such awesome hair that we named him Marley, after Bob Marley!

Despite his rough start, Marley has blossomed with the love and support he so deeply deserved. He is miraculous in his transformation.

Flea's Story: Blessed Brinley

Flea.jpg

“Flea,” now known as Brinley, came into our lives unexpectedly one weekend when we were away during a terrible storm —a nameless, homeless pup covered in fleas that no one claimed . After a quick bath and a lot of love, he transformed into the sweetest companion. With his affectionate nature and gentle spirit, Brinley has completely stolen our hearts. He’s a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from giving a second chance. We are blessed by his love.

Two Sweet Bunnies

Meet the newest fluffballs on the homestead: Floppy & Patches! Patches is our little diva who thinks being held is a privilege – she’ll squirm like a pro to make you earn her love. Meanwhile, Floppy is the overenthusiastic hippity hop, shouting, “Pick me up!” with her nose poking through the cage. It's a classic case of “bunny antics” – and trust us, they know how to steal the show!

Bingo's Last Storm

I don’t know when I was born. I don’t know what love is supposed to feel like.

I just remember the cold ground, the rain that never stopped, and the fights

over scraps of food.

I learned early: if you didn’t fight, you didn’t eat. If you didn’t hide, you got hurt.

The big dogs always pushed me aside, so I learned to be quick, to snatch a mouthful

and run.

Then one day, they loaded me into a metal box that smelled of gas and fear. We drove for a long time. The sun was hot — so hot my paws burned when they dragged me out. They tied me to a tree with something stretchy and left. I don’t know why. Maybe they were tired of me, or maybe I just wasn’t worth the trouble.

The first day I waited. I watched the bugs crawl. The horse flies bit me until my skin burned. The sun beat down and I couldn’t move. I barked, but no one came.

On the second day, I thought maybe this was it. Maybe this was where I would sleep forever. But then I saw him — a man, running. I didn’t trust him. Why should I? People had only ever brought pain.

He talked to me. He left food. I didn’t want to get close, but my stomach growled louder than my fear. Slowly, I crawled forward. I didn’t know it yet, but that moment was the closest thing I ever had to a beginning.

He took me to a place with cool water and more food than I had ever seen. There was shelter and shade, and something else — kindness. But there were other dogs, too. I didn’t know how to live with them. I only knew how to fight.

When it rained, I got scared. The storm reminded me of all those nights outside. I didn’t want to be alone, so I climbed out. I needed to find the man.

The family tried so hard. They gave me baths, called doctors, tried to teach me that food would always be there. But I couldn’t forget the old ways. My fear turned to growls. My survival turned to aggression.

I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I didn’t want to scare the children or fight the other dogs. But deep inside, I was still that puppy fighting for scraps in the mud.

The man and his family tried everything. When no one else would help, they chose to keep me safe the only way they knew how. I heard them say "humane," but I didn’t understand the word.

On my last day, the man stayed with me. His voice was calm, even as my eyes grew heavy. I wasn’t alone. I wasn’t hungry. I wasn’t afraid. I just... drifted.

When I woke up again, I was in a meadow. There were no fences, no chains.

Just soft grass and the whisper of trees. The man was there too, digging and talking to me.

I felt the earth wrap around me like a warm blanket.

For the first time, I didn’t have to fight. I didn’t have to hide.

I was free.

---

Epilogue (From the man’s perspective):

Bingo’s story isn’t just his. It’s the story of millions of dogs who are discarded like trash every single day. We, the supposed guardians of these souls, have forgotten that they are not objects. They are not disposable.

I held him as he took his last breath because I wouldn’t let him go alone, like the day he was tied to that tree.

If you take anything from Bingo’s story, let it be this: Our humanity is measured not by what we build, but by how we care for those who have no voice.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” — Proverbs 31:8
